Enhance FAQs
Search our knowledge hub for frequently asked questions about the investment governance specialist for trustees, Enhance.
As a trustee, you have a fiduciary duty to regularly monitor the structures and investments under your care. You also have a duty to obtain and consider professional advice when making investment decisions. Monitor and Select have been specifically designed to help you meet and manage these trustee duties, delivered through our custom-built governance hub, Connect.
Enhance was founded in Jersey in 2005 and has been providing portfolio monitoring (Monitor) and manager selection (Select) services exclusively to the global trustee community for over 20 years. Today, we are one of the most well-established and longstanding investment governance specialists for trustees in the world, combining investment experts with custom-built technology.
Lots! Our key differentiator is that we are an investment governance specialist that works exclusively with trustees. Very few providers have such a razor-sharp trustee focus or combine qualified investment experts with custom-built technology to deliver targeted services. We are also very cost-effective, passing on the benefits of our tech and economies of scale to our trustee clients through competitive pricing.
Enhance is a privately owned company with high staff equity participation (approx. 80%). This means that our team has 'skin in the game', operating like owner-managers with a long-term time horizon. We are also truly independent, with no fee income whatsoever generated from the investment management industry - this is key for Enhance to be able to offer truly objective and impartial portfolio monitoring and manager selection services.
Call us old-fashioned, but we like to run a debt-free, profitable business! We have no financing in place and fund our ongoing investment into talent and technology by prioritising the reinvestment of profits back into our company each year. Unlike other tech-centric businesses, we haven't raised external capital and prefer to grow steadily and sustainably - a strategy that's served us and our clients well for over two decades.
The Enhance HQ is in Jersey, Channel Islands - the place where the business was founded and a key International Finance Centre for the trustee community and their clients. Most of our team live and work in Jersey, with around a fifth of staff dotted around the UK. Despite Enhance being based on a small island, our team is a diverse bunch from all over Europe, Africa and Asia to reflect our global client base.
CISI stands for the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, which is a leading professional body for the investment industry. Enhance's Chartered Firm accreditation is independent recognition of our commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards, including employing a high proportion of staff with CISI qualifications and membership. We think this matters.
Enhance Wealth Consultancy Limited, the entity that delivers our Select manager selection service, is regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) under the Financial Services (Jersey) Law 1998. Enhance Investment Reporting Limited, which delivers our Monitor portfolio monitoring service, is unregulated as investment reporting does not require a regulatory licence in Jersey. Across the group, we operate to the highest professional standards as a CISI Chartered Firm and employ CFA and CISI-accredited investment professionals.
Enhance works exclusively with trustees, family offices and charities around the world. This includes trust companies, private trustees, corporate service providers, private banks, law firms with trustee arms and charitable foundations. Our razor-sharp focus on the trustee community means that our services, technology and people are purpose-built to address the specific investment governance challenges that these organisations face.
We currently have over 7,000 investment accounts on our Connect platform, spanning more than 800 investment managers and over $50 billion in assets under reporting. Our Select consultancy service manages over $5 billion in assets under advice across more than 100 client groups. These numbers continue to grow as more trustees choose Enhance to help manage their investment responsibilities.
No, absolutely not! This is fundamental to who we are. Enhance receives zero fee income from the investment management industry. All of our revenue comes directly from the trustee clients we serve. This complete independence from investment managers is what enables us to deliver truly objective and impartial portfolio monitoring and manager selection services without any conflicts of interest.
We publish regular market commentary and investment insights through our Resources section, including quarterly peer group data with accompanying commentary from our independently chaired Investment Committee. We also provide free access to market data resources on our website. Within our services, your dedicated Governance Manager or Investment Consultant is always available to discuss market developments in the context of your specific portfolios.
No, never. Enhance is not a custodian, bank or investment manager and no company in the group holds client assets or money. Monitor reports on portfolios held with your chosen investment managers and custodians, and Select is an advisory service with custody sitting with an independent private banking platform. This separation is deliberate: it keeps Enhance objective and removes an entire category of risk from your due diligence.
No. Enhance never manages money on a discretionary basis. Monitor provides independent portfolio monitoring, delivered by Enhance Investment Reporting Limited, and Select provides manager selection advice, delivered by Enhance Wealth Consultancy Limited under a JFSC Category D advisory licence. Every Select recommendation requires trustee approval before it is implemented. Discretion always remains with you and the investment managers you appoint, which is where trust law expects it to sit.
Investment governance is the framework trustees use to oversee the investments they are responsible for: setting a clear investment policy, appointing the right managers and advisers, reviewing every portfolio regularly, and keeping an auditable record of decisions and actions. It is how trustees demonstrate that fiduciary investment duties, such as those in the Trustee Act 2000, have been discharged. Enhance specialises in investment governance, combining qualified investment experts with our custom-built platform, Connect.
We make due diligence straightforward. Our cyber certifications (Cyber Essentials Plus and IASME Cyber Assurance) can be verified independently through the Blockmark registry. Attestation letters for our annual penetration testing are available on request, and the regulatory status of Enhance Wealth Consultancy Limited can be checked on the JFSC register. We will also support any corporate or platform due diligence review your firm needs to complete before engaging us.
The process is simple. It starts with an enquiry and the relevant fact sheet, followed by a personalised presentation covering the service and the Connect platform. We then provide a tailored proposal and, if you decide to proceed, engagement forms complete the process. Most trustees are up and running within a few weeks of engaging us, guided by a dedicated Governance Manager or Investment Consultant throughout.
The Resources section of our website is free to access and written specifically for trustees, without industry jargon. It includes our Playbooks for Trustees, plain-English guides covering topics such as trustee investment duties, appointing consultants and monitoring providers, investment fees and data automation. You will also find our Insights articles, quarterly Enhance Peer Groups data with Investment Committee commentary, and Market Data covering the major asset classes.
